  • Head-Fi Meet up 2012 in Cambridge

It seems that headphone fans are being spoiled this September, not only is there a Headphone area for the first time at this years National Audio Show but also a Head-fi meet up in Cambridge!

Head-Fi is widely seen as the best forum to discuss everything headphone and earphone related. The American contingent have been holding large meet ups, forum members try out each others equipment and discover what all the fuss is about without spending thousands on an item they have no way to demo. Although there have been a few small events in the UK it looks like the largest to date will take place this September in Cambridge.

Last years head-fi meet in London was so successful many people expressed an interest in attending one this year, one forum member decided to take things into his own hands. With the help of other members and several Audio companies the UK meet up has been organised for Saturday 15th of September in Bar Hill Village hall in Cambridgeshire.

Doors are open at 10:00am with a trully incredible raffle draw taking place at 4pm, the meet will then finish at 5pm. The list of equipment on show is too huge to place here - Visit the Thread on Head-fi to get you excited.

Although cannot attend due to prior commitments, as a head-fi sponsor we have donated some raffle prizes and we will be running a special discount offer through the website for those who attend the meet up. We will run this for two weeks so that anyone attending either the Head-fi meet up or National Audio Show '12 has the chance to use it.

Headphone fans are being spoiled this September

The National Audio Show ’12 is held at Whittlebury Hall Hotel  & Spa, a geographically perfect location, being equidistant between two key arterial motorways (M40 & M1) and also equidistant from the M25 and South Midlands. For those that choose not to drive, there will be regular shuttle buses from Milton Keynes Railway station for just £4 return.

This year they have introduced an exciting and long awaited addition known as ‘HEADZONES’ which will feature a large range of Headphones and accessories from around the world. In fact this idea has been so popular that the organisers have had to increase the space originally allocated. Click here to read a Blog post about the The National Audio Show ’12.

Names already confirmed include Hifi-Man, Schiit Audio, STAX, Audio Technica, Omega Headphone Stands, Cavalli Audio, German Maestro, Audeze, SoundMAGIC, Just Audio, Sennheiser, AKG, harman/kardon, Grado, PSB, Beyerdynamic and more recently Phillips Fidelio.

    Head-fi meet up travel info

Bar Hill village hall, which has good access to the M11 and A1(M) via the A14, has been booked for Saturday 15th September. There is ample onsite parking, tables/chairs, a kitchen, spacious hall and accessible toilets. The hall address is - 171 The Spinney, Bar Hill, Cambridge, CB23 8SU.

The hall is accessed via a residential area, so Sat Nav users enter the postcode and 171 The Spinney to pinpoint the exact location. Bar Hill village is well served by buses from Cambridge bus depot. The Citi 5 (operated by Stagecoach) leaves every 20 minutes on Saturdays. The closest stop to the village hall is near Apple Trees.

  • WeSC Open Flagship London Shop in Carnaby Street - Alp Horn First Photo

WeSC officially opened their first high street shop in Carnaby Street, London last night.  HiFi Headphones were invited to the launch party, which was organised by LateralCorp (the UK importer of WeSC products).

The launch party was also attended by celebrity investor Debora Meadon from the UK TV series Dragons Den as well as the founder of WeSC, Greger Hagelin.  Shaun and Kristina from HiFi Headphones took the opportunity to have a few beers and meet some of the team.

WeSC Alp Horn - First Photos & Test

The WeSC store launch party gave us the chance to have our first listen of the WeSC Alp Horn headphone.  The Alp Horn has been in the pipeline for some time (we were expecting initial stock in August 2008), so it is great to finally see the Alp Horn in production.

Annalise from LateralCorp kindly let us demo an Alp Horn and we were suitably impressed.  The design of the Alp Horn is like no other headphone we have ever seen and we love it.  It's great to see a headphone manufacturer doing something completely different and unique with headphone design.

I had a bit of trouble with the fit of the headband over my head and ended up wearing it with the headband resting towards the back of the top of my head.  Mind you I have a particularly large head and have problems finding hats and caps that fit me!

    WeSC Alp Horn Headphones

Sound quality is excellent, with plenty of clarity and detail.  I found bass response a little lacking initially, but this improved substantially once I got the fit right and therefore got a good  seal over the ears.

Overall we think this headphone is a winner.

  • HiFi Headphones - What HiFi? Sound & Vision 2008 ‘Bristol Show’ report

If you are into HiFi gear, and live anywhere near the friendly West Country city of Bristol, the Marriot City Centre Hotel was the place to be on the 22nd,23rd and 24th February 2008.  The HiFi Headphones team made there way to the show on the weekend to have a play with the latest offerings from the headphone manufacturers exhibiting at the What HiFi? Sound & Vision 'Bristol Show'.  The show features a broad range of HiFi and home cinema equipement, but as you can imagine we were only really interested in the headphones and earphones.

Being located at a hotel means there are effectivley lots of individual demo suites for each manufacturer to showcase their products.  This creates a very relaxed atmosphere where you get chance to chat with the sales reps and see first hand what the products are capable of.  The experience is a stark contrast to the to a large shows located in a vast arena such as Earls Court in London or the NEC in Birmingham.

    Let The Show Begin

Arriving on the Saturday morning we were confronted with a lengthy queue outside the Marriot hotel, but the show organisers had plenty of staff working the queue and visitors were soon through the doors checking out the goodies inside.

The headphone manufacturers represented at the show included Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Grado, Goldring and Denon.  Sony and Pioneer both had a presence at the how, but were showing off their big screen TV’s and had no headphones on display.  Audio-Technica had a mobile crew walking around the show demonstrating the ATH-ANC7 Quietpoint noise cancelling headphones to anyone who fancies a listen.

    Our Mission

The main objective for the HiFi Headphones team was to meet our suppliers and to hook up with some new partners.  Grado and Goldring were top of our list as we are looking to offer these high quality headphone brands on the HiFi Headphones website in the coming months.  We also wanted to meet Audio-Technica’s newly appointed UK distributor, as we have been purchasing direct from the manufacturer in the past (there was no UK distributor previously).  Of course we also took the opportunity to try out some headphone models that we do not currently stock from Sennheiser.

There are also some other very interesting products we had the opportunity to look at that we can’t talk about right now.  Keep your eyes on the HiFi Headphones blog and the HiFi Headphones online shop for news of these developments as they occur in the very near future.

While only a small scale show in comparison to the national HiFi shows held in London the Bristol Show is a great place to see the latest gear in a relaxed,  informal atmosphere and maybe even pick up a show bargain or two.

We had a great time at the show and really appreciated the friendly atmosphere created by the show visitors, organisers and the exhibitors.
